WATERLOO, Ind. (WANE) – Perfection and persistence describe the 2015 DeKalb softball season. For the first time since 2004, the Lady Barons won the Northeast Hoosier Conference title outright with a 7-0 conference record. We are proud to recognize the DeKalb softball team as our Orthopedic Hospital of Lutheran Health Network “Team of the Week.”
Two juniors on the team reached personal milestones this season. Pitcher, Camille Furrow, surpassed the 200 strikeout mark on Monday with 13 strikeouts in DeKalb’s 22-0 win over North Side in the first round of sectionals. Furrow is now third on the all-time strikeout list at DHS.
Teammate, Allie Gaff, is making history this year offensively. Gaff broke the season and all time triples record, tied the season and all time home-run record, and is just shy of reaching the record for RBI’s in a season. She is hitting .555 this season.
The Lady Barons have high hopes as they continue their postseason. After cruising to a first round win, DeKalb will face rival, Carroll, on Tuesday in sectional semi-finals. The Chargers have ended the Lady Barons tournament run for the past three years. In their first and final meeting in the regular season, DeKalb defeated Carroll 10-0 to clinch the conference crown. The team hopes this season’s success against Carroll continues when the two play for a trip to sectional finals on Tuesday night at 5:00PM.
