IPFW Scorched At South Dakota State 15-0

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota State Jackrabbits jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first inning, and cruised the rest of the way in a 15-0 IPFW loss that came a day after the team clinched its berth into the 2015 Summit League Tournament.

The Mastodons scattered six hits among six different players, as Kaleb Zimmer, Greg Kaiser, Brock Logan, Shannon Baker, Chris Delgadillo, and Zak Kellogg each had a hit in the contest – each of them singles.

After a 1-2-3 top of the first inning, South Dakota State benefited from two walks, an error, and five hits to score seven runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Two more walks in the bottom of the second inning came around to score, as the Jackrabbits scored three times in the second to push their lead to 10-0. In the bottom of the fifth SDSU drew five walks and scored five times on one hit and an error, giving the game its 15-0 final score.,

IPFW threatened in the top of the third, putting runners on second and third with two outs; however, an inning-ending groundout stopped the threat.,

Trevor Storie picked up the loss, pitching an inning while giving up five earned runs, giving up six hits and walking four. Brandon Pease allowed four earned runs over three and a third inning, walking six and striking out four while Kyle Sorensen finished the game, pitching the final 1-2/3 of an inning, striking out one and giving up an unearned run.

The teams return to Erv Huether Field on Friday, May 16 in the third and final game of the series, leading into the Summit League Tournament, which IPFW will also face off against South Dakota State.
