One dead in Paulding County crash

Utility workers from AEP Ohio work to make repairs to a damage utility pole and transformer following a crash in Paulding County, Ohio Thursday night.

PAULDING COUNTY, Ohio (WANE) – A crash in Paulding County Thursday evening killed a Cleveland man and injured two others.

Emergency responders were dispatched to S.R. 49 north of County Road 124 shortly before 7:30 p.m. for a single vehicle crash.

Ohio State Highway Patrol said a vehicle left the road and collided with a utility pole. A passenger in the backseat was ejected from the vehicle. Manuel Robles, Jr., 20, Cleveland, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another passenger and the driver were hospitalized with unknown injuries. Investigators did not have updates on their conditions early Friday morning.

OSHP said they do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, but believe excessive speed was a contributing factor.

The impact with the utility pole snapped the pole and knocked out power to a large area of western Paulding County. AEP Ohio workers were on scene work to make repairs and restore power.

State Road 49 was closed for approximately six hours.

The crash is under investigation.
