FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The Allen County SPCA is spending the weekend hoping to collect donations and fill its vans with goods to help animals in need. The organization hosted its “Stuff the Van” event to gather new or gently-used pet supplies such as crates, leashes, food, treats, and other pet supplies.
The donated supplies and food will go to help the ACSPCA’s new program, Pets for Life. The program helps families with cats and dogs that don’t have their basic needs met.
“Pets for Life is an opportunity for all of us to give to animals who need our help just as much as shelter dogs and cats, specifically, pets in homes who don’t have some of their very basic needs met,” Shelter Executive Director Jessica Henry said in a statement. “These animals are beloved members of their families, but each week during our pet food bank, we receive requests for better-fitting collars, dog crates, litter boxes, etc. It’s our hope that we can help keep pet owners and their cherished pets together by launching a program to ensure that underserved animals have access to quality food and supplies.”
The shelter, located a 4914 Hanna St., is accepting donations from noon to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
Other supplies the shelter said it needed include pet shampoo, flea preventatives and pet bedding.
Receipts will be given for anyone who needs it for tax purposes.
