Mad Ants Squander Big Lead In Game One Loss To Santa Cruz

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Mad Ants jumped out to a 20-point lead in the first quarter but could not hold on as Santa Cruz rallied in the second half to top Fort Wayne 119-115 in game one of the 2015 NBADL Finals.

The Warriors lead the best-of-three series 1-0 with game two set to be played in Santa Cruz on Sunday night at 7 p.m. Game three, if necessary, would be Monday also at Santa Cruz.

The Mad Ants came out hot in the first quarter, as Ramon Harris took control. The forward helped the Ants open the game on a 21-6 run and ended up with 30 points for the game to lead Fort Wayne. Late in the first quarter Jordan Crawford’s putback bucket gave the Ants a 20-point lead at 31-11 en route to a 62-53 lead at half. Crawford finished with 24 points for the game to go with 11 assists.

Santa Cruz erased that deficit in the third quarter, outscoring the Ants 33-23 in the frame to take an 86-85 lead into the final frame.

In the fourth quarter the Warriors continued their scoring barrage, as Eliot Williams finished with a game-high 31 points and Santa Cruz held on for a 119-115 win.

Trey McKinney Jones and Matt Bouldin chipped in 17 points apiece for the Ants. C.J. Fair added 13 points while Pacers assignee Shayne Whittington added nine points.
