Take home your forever friend the same day you adopt

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The next time a family is looking to adopt, their pet will go to their forever home that same day. The Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control has a new same day adoption process.

“Deciding to adopt a pet is an exciting time for many families. We would like to make this process as simple as possible,” Adoption Supervisor at Animal Care & Control Lindsay Pease said in a statement. The previous adoption process required people to wait 24-hours before they could pick up their new pet.

The decision to have same day adoptions is a way for the organization to help place animals in quality homes faster. Same day adoptions also reduce stress on the animal.

Another change to its adoption process is that animals can no longer be placed on hold.

Anyone interested in adopting will need to be prepared to adopt when they visit. The animal shelter said people who already have dogs and cats at home should bring current distemper and rabies vaccine records. Owners should also bring their pets, family members and children under 5-years-old to meet their new pet.
