Snider’s Deja Wimby Wins Gooden Award

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – From one standout Snider girls basketball player to another, Deja Wimby was presented the 2015 Gooden Award by its namesake Tiffany Gooden Monday night at The Journal Gazette’s winter sports banquet at the Mirro Center.

Wimby was one of four finalists, competing with Concordia’s DeJour Young, Snider’s Devlyn Williams, and North Side’s Sean McGee.

Wimby, who will play college basketball at Western Michigan University, averaged 27.1 points as a senior at Snider. She also tallied 8.8 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game, helping lead Snider to a 21-5 record and an SAC regular season title.

Wimby finishes as the second all-time leading scorer in Snider girls basketball history and ranks number one in steals.

Snider’s Kelley Meiklejohn was named the SAC girls coach of the year while Matt Kostoff of Bishop Dwenger earned the honor on the boys side.

The Journal Gazette also named its teams of the year, all SAC teams, and all Northeast Indiana squads.
