SOFT: IPFW Falls To 0-24 With Loss At Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – In the final game before its home opener, the IPFW softball team fell to Notre Dame 9-0.

It was the third time this season that the Mastodons faced a team who was receiving votes in the both national media and coaches polls. The game was the first meeting between the two schools since 2003.

The lone IPFW hit came in the top of the fourth with one out as Emily Olszewski connected on a 3-2 pitch delivering a rope through the left side of the infield. Olszewski moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, but the ‘Dons were unable to bring her home.

The Irish opened the game scoring twice in the bottom of the first on a pair of groundouts. Notre Dame scored three times in the second and twice in the third on a two-run home run. The Fighting Irish added two more runs in the fourth on a pair of singles.

Kaitlyn Biere took the loss in the circle for the ‘Dons, throwing three and two-third innings. Sarah Lazarowich came on to record the final out in the bottom of the fourth.

After 24 games on the road to start the year, IPFW finally kicks off its home schedule with a doubleheader on March 28 against Western Illinois with first pitch set for 10:30 a.m.
