Man’s body found in Indiana river may be that of missing man

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Northern Indiana police say a body found in the St. Joseph River may be that of a 31-year-old man who vanished in December along with a woman whose body was recently discovered nearby.

The South Bend Tribune reports St. Joseph County police believe the body pulled Saturday from the river in South Bend is that of 31-year-old Nick Sams.

Sams was last seen Dec. 27 with 23-year-old Chrystal Reyes as they left a home in a Jeep Commander Sport.

The South Bend woman’s body was found Tuesday in an SUV discovered submerged near the area where Sams’ body was found.

Lt. Dave Wells says authorities don’t yet have a positive ID on the man’s body, but says there’s “a strong possibility it is the other victim that is missing.”
