INDIANAPOLIS – In the tenth of 11 head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel were defeated by the Fort Wayne Komets on Wednesday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum by a final score of 4-1. With the loss, the Fuel fell to 25-27-4-5 overall this season and with 59 points, remain alone in sixth place in the ECHL’s North Division standings, just one point shy of playoff position.
After a scoreless first, the Komets claimed a 2-0 lead in the middle frame thanks to a power-play goal from former Indy forward Brett Perlini at 4:31 and an even-strength Mike Embach score just past the period’s nine-minute mark. Nick Jones buried his second goal in as many nights at 8:28 of the third thanks to power-play feeds from Rhett Bly and Kyle Stroh to give the Fuel a chance, but two quick Komets tallies, from Eric Faille at 15:22 and Perlini at 15:45, salted away a 4-1 Fort Wayne win. Shane Owen made 25 saves in defeat for the Fuel, while Roman Will’s 26 stops preserved the Komets’ victory.
The Komets will be on the road Friday at Kalamazoo before returning to the Coliseum Saturday and Sunday against the Missouri Mavericks.
