FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – 4A no. 6 Carroll bested SAC champion North Side to headline boys sectional semifinal action all across northeast Indiana on Friday night.
The Chargers took control early at Northrop’s Schoeff Gymnasium, jumping out to a 10-2 lead. North Side would tie it in the fourth, but never took the lead as the Chargers won 57-51. Jacob Redding led Carroll with 14 points while Kyle Mallers added 13. North Side senior Sean McGee closed out his prep career with a team-best 26 points.
Carroll will face Northrop in the sectional title game tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. as the Bruins won Friday’s semifinal over East Noble 58-39.
In 4A play at Wayne High School the host Generals saw their season come to an end with a 46-35 loss to Jay County. Justin Dirksen led the Patriots with 14 points while Anthony Neal guided the Generals with 10.
In the late game at Wayne it was 4A no. 4 Homestead ending the game on a 25-5 run to top South Side 76-57. The Spartans led by one at half and actually trailed 52-51 at one point in the second half before their late rally. Teddy Ray led the Spartans with 26 points while Caleb Swanigan added 16 points and 14 rebounds. Austin Boucher led South with 15. The Spartans and Patriots will play Monday night instead of Saturday due to the Homestead girls playing in the 4A state title game tomorrow.
In 3A play at Columbia City the host Eagles used a Mason Coverstone three with 2.2 seconds left in overtime to send their game against Eastbrook into double OT. The 3A no. 15 Eagles proceeded to outscore the Panthers 6-3 in the final frame to win 46-43.
The Eagles will face NHC rival Norwell on Saturday in the sectional title game at the Knights disposed of Bellmont 59-28. The Knights and Eagles will square off at 7 p.m.
At Paul Bateman Gymnasium Bishop Dwenger beat Leo for the second time in less than three weeks, topping the 3A no. 6 Lions 64-57. Marcus Stepp led the way for the Saints with 26 points while Kray Klopfenstein tallied 24 point for Leo. The Saints will square off against SAC rival Bishop Luers tomorrow night as the Knights bested Concordia 49-39.
In 3A action at West Noble High School Wawasee rallied to beat Tippecanoe Valley 50-39 while NorthWood beat Fairfield 66-59.
2A no. 10 Churubusco is just one win away from the program’s first sectional title as the Eagles downed Woodlan 86-58 in Woodburn on Friday night. Senior Paul Forman had 23 points to lead Busco while classmate Blake Gross tallied 18.
Busco will now face Canterbury in the title game as the Cavaliers beat Eastside 75-59. Due to the Canterbury girls playing in the 2A title game tomorrow the Busco/Canterbury game will be played at 7 p.m. on Monday.
In 2A at Westview High School 2A no. 14 LaVille bested Fremont 47-26 while Prairie Heights took care of Central Noble 49-19. The Lancers and Panthers will play at 7 p.m. tomorrow for the sectional title.
1A action at Hamilton saw 1A no. 7 Blackhawk Christian best Hamilton 65-34 as Riley Reimschisel led the Braves with 16 points. Blackhawk will face Elkhart Central in the sectional title game tomorrow at 7 p.m. as ECA edged Lakewood Park 50-49 on Friday night.
