Residents escape home destroyed by fire

FREMONT, Ind. (WANE) A fire that started in a garage quickly spread and ended up destroying a home early Wednesday morning in Fremont, Indiana.

According to a news release issued by the Fremont Fire Department, crews arrived at the home located at 307 Prairie Lane two minutes after being dispatched at 5:37 am. Fremont police were first on the scene and reported the home to be engulfed. Crews managed to get the fire under control in about a half hour.

All of the occupants and the family dog made it out safely, however a cat perished in the blaze.

The cause has not yet been determined.

The Fremont Fire Department and Fremont Police Department were assisted by the Angola Fire Department, Fremont Water Department, NIPSCO, Steuben County EMS, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department and Steuben County Communications.
