Court docs: Teen-involved shooting was over pot

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) –  A 17-year-old is being charged as an adult in a shooting that left another teenager seriously injured earlier in February.

Joshua Smiley faces battery and robbery charges for the Monday, February 16 shooting. The 17-year-old victim told police that he went to a home in the 3100 block of Lillie Street to buy some pot, after which he was confronted by Smiley. The victim told police that Smiley held a gun at him and said “[g]ive me your s***, I know you got some tree.” The victim refused to hand over the pot, but offered to smoke some with the gunman.

The victim said Smiley then shot him three times, grabbed the plastic bag that had the marijuana, got into the passenger side of an SUV and took off. The victim was hit in the wrist, lower torso and left leg. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
