FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The last high school wrestling matches in northeast Indiana took place Saturday at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Grapplers in the region were looking to advance to the IHSAA state finals in Indianapolis.
The high school wrestling championship will take place Friday and Saturday, February 20 and 21.
Three area wrestlers were undefeated entering Saturday’s semi-state round, but all three young men suffered their first losses of the season. On a positive note, Carroll’s Josh Garman, who suffered his first loss, finished third at 152 pounds and advanced to state. Concordia’s Zach Davis, another unbeaten wrestler, also advanced to state despite finishing fourth and taking two losses on the day.
Carroll’s Eric Dunten, who was also undefeated at 192 pounds, lost in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Yorktown finished with the top team score with 129.5 points. East Noble was second with 65.5. Carroll. who had finished first in both its sectional and regional, placed sixth at semi-state with 34 points.
