Sled hockey teams hit the ice for Summit City tournaments

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Sled hockey teams from as far as Buffalo and Colorado visited the Summit City to compete in two sled hockey tournaments this weekend.

Parkview/ SportONE Icehouse hosted the 7th Annual Bob Chase Frostbite Sled Hockey Classic and the 5th Annual Silver Stick Sled Hockey Final February 7 and 8.

The Silver Stick Sled Hockey Final is a tournament for youth teams. Silver Stick is a non-profit organization with more than 65,000 players that compete in events annually.

Adult teams compete in the classic which is part of the Mid-American Great Lakes Sled Hockey League. The top two teams at the end of the season go on to the Disabled Festival National Championship.

The nationwide event included teams from Buffalo Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Indiana.

Local teams with the Turnstone Flyers are competed in both tournaments. The teams competed at various times throughout the weekend. For a full schedule, click here.
