Hundreds compete in sled hockey tournament

Sled hockey tournament

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) –  Hockey players from Turnstone and other states are hitting the ice this weekend for the annual Bob Chase Frostbite Sled Hockey Classic.

More than 200 athletes from as far away as Colorado are competing in this weekend’s tournament.  Organizers say the sport gives the players a chance they might not otherwise have.

“You got every age level, age group and it’s just a lot of fun. Anyone that has some kind of physical disability that prevents them from competing in stand up hockey can play sled hockey,” Kevin Hughes, the sports and recreation coordinator for Turnstone, said.

The semi-finals and championship game are Sunday. Admission is free.
