1/23 Highlight Zone – Snider Girls Take Control Of SAC

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Snider girls topped Concordia 61-40 to improve to 5-0 in conference play and take sole possession of the SAC on Friday night to headline area prep basketball action.

Snider outscored the Cadets 18-6 in the third quarter to take a commanding lead on the way to the win. Deja Wimby netted 28 points to lead Snider.

Concordia’s loss in their first in SAC play, as the Cadets fall to 4-1 in league action. DeJour Young paced the Cadets with 17 points.

Snider can clinch the SAC title next Friday night when the Panthers travel to Bishop Dwenger.

Wayne, meanwhile, kept their SAC title hopes alive by improving to 4-1 in conference action with a 59-51 win at Bishop Luers. Sh’Toya Sanders tallied 24 points and 21 rebounds while Shayla Sutorious added 18 points. Emma Wolfe led Luers with 23 points.

Bishop Dwenger used a big third quarter to take control in a 59-45 win at Northrop while South Side topped North Side at By Hey Arena 68-33 to wrap up SAC girls action.

North Side continues to set the pace in the SAC boys title chase, as the Redskins improved to 5-0 in league play with a 79-68 win over South Side on Friday. Sean McGee led the Redskins with 29 points while Fred Preston poured in 20 for the Archers.

Snider, meanwhile, improved to 4-1 in the league by beating Concordia 59-43. Jessie Bates led Snider with 15 points while Malik Williams tallied 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Panthers. Reggie Tharp netted 18 points for Concordia.

In other SAC boys play Northrop topped Bishop Dwenger 64-57 in overtime while Bishop Luers had no problem with Wayne 75-48.

Three teams in the state of Indiana came into the night with a perfect record, and Leo made sure they left with that undefeated mark intact. The 3A no. 3 Lions beat Southern Wells 87-47 to improve to 15-0 on the season. Adam Davison led the way with 19 points for Leo.

In NECC double-header action Churubusco swept Angola. The Busco girls won 61-59 on a last-second jumper from Alisha Farner, while the 2A no. 7 Busco edged the Hornets 46-39 to improve to 12-1.

Blackhawk Christian swept a double-header at home against Lakewood Park, as the 1A no. 6 boys rolled 75-42 while the girls won 48-39.

In an NCC double-header at North Arena it was the Huntington North girls edging Lafayette Jeff 48-45 for their fifth win in their last six games. Meanwhile, the Huntington North boys fell to Lafayette Jeff 53-46 despite 14 points from Cody Adams.

In NHC girls action Homestead clinched at least a share of the league title as they moved to 6-0 in conference play with a 90-19 win over Bellmont. Karissa McLaughlin led the Spartans with 25 points while IPFW signee Josie Fisher hit the 1,000 point milestone.

In other NHC girls play 3A no. 9 Columbia City won 69-57 at DeKalb while Maddie Peterson netted 18 points in leading Carroll over East Noble 59-48.
