Waterloo Fire Chief Kirby Hobbs said the building contains an antiques shop that has been closed for several years. He said there were items still inside the building, making it difficult to put out the fire.
“There was still a lot of items inside the building, made it very difficult to gain entry anywhere,” he said.
Hobbs said they don’t believe anyone was inside.
All train traffic in the area was stopped for a couple hours.
Waterloo Fire Department received assistance from the following departments: Angola, Auburn, Butler, Corona, Edgerton, Garrett and Kendallville
