Air guard unit returning from 6-month deployment

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A six-month deployment is over for 26 airmen with the 122nd Fighter Wing based at the Fort Wayne Air National Guard Base.

The members of the Security Forces Squadron are returning from their six-month deployment to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

According to the release on the return, the 122nd Security Force members provided critical air base defense operations as well as specialized ‘fly away’ security details protecting sensitive air cargo in transit through various areas of U.S. military operations overseas.

Three hundred airmen with the 122nd Fighter Wing based at the Fort Wayne Air National Guard Base were deployed to the U.S. Central Command Region last year. The U.S. Central Command Region consists of consists of 20 countries, including Afghanistan, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Yemen.
