KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A man who beat his girlfriend with a 2-week-old puppy until the animal died was sentenced to six months in jail, according to the Kalamazoo County prosecutor.

Timothy Tucker, 51, pleaded guilty in December to one count of third-offense domestic violence as a second-time habitual offender. As part of a plea agreement, one count of killing/torturing animals was dismissed.

Investigators say Tucker punched his girlfriend in the face and then continued hitting her with their 2-week-old puppy in November. The girlfriend had to be hospitalized after the beating and the puppy died.

Tucker was also sentenced on Tuesday to four years probation and entry into the Swift and Sure Sanctions Program.
