KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WANE)  A Leesburg woman was seriously hurt Friday afternoon when witness said she drove into the path of an oncoming train.

Medics were called to the intersection of County Road 600 North and Old State Road 15 around 4:30, after getting a report of a car/train crash.

When they arrived, Lorraine Amerkanos, 58, was trapped inside her vehicle. She was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital in serious condition with multiple injuries.

A preliminary investigation determined that Amerkanos was eastbound on County Road 600 North, approaching the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing. According to witness statements, she failed to look for the northbound freight train and pulled directly into its path.
