Power restored for most after crash knocks it out for thousands

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Two separate vehicle crashes knocked out power to about 5,500 Indiana Michigan Power customers for several hours on Friday morning.

Emergency responders were notified of a crash around 6 a.m. at Wheelock and Stellhorn roads on the city’s northeast side. County dispatchers confirmed the crash brought down utility lines and poles.

Indiana Michigan Power said as of 9 a.m. about 2,713 people were without power. Power appeared to be restored to most customers by 9:30 a.m.

Another crash in the Leo area knocked out power to 600 customers. Around 9:30 a.m., power appeared to have restored to those customers as well.

No injuries were reported in either crash.
