Rape suspect arrested after crash on I-69

GAS CITY, Ind. (WANE) A man wanted on rape charges in Ohio was captured by police Thursday evening after he crashed the minivan he was driving on I-69 near the 260 mile marker.

At 9:30 pm, an Indiana State Police trooper arrived at the crash scene and found the abandoned minivan which had hit the median cable barrier. No other vehicles were involved. The trooper ran a check on the minivan and found out it was registered to David Harris Andrews Jr., 27, of St. Mary, Ohio. Andrews was wanted for rape by the St. Mary Police Department.

The trooper and officers with the Gas City Police Department searched businesses near the crash scene and found Andrews hiding behind a gas station near the 259 mile marker exit ramp.

He’s being held without bond pending extradition. Andrews faces felony charges of strong arm rape, unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and gross sexual imposition.
