LAKE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) A South Haven man is in critical condition after he injured two people, including a deputy and then was taken to a hospital due to a medical condition.

Just before 9 a.m. Thursday, the Porter Sheriff’s Department received a call claiming Harold W. Gielow Junior, 55, was throwing a Christmas tree and garbage into a road. A deputy found Gielow walking along a road near U.S. Highway 6. As the deputy made contact with Gielow, he immediately began to fight the deputy, according to the press release.

Another person in the area stopped to help the deputy until other officers arrived.

As officers tried to subdue Gielow, he suffered a medical emergency.  A deputy provided CPR until he could be transported to a hospital in the area.

The deputy was taken to the hospital with a fractured ankle. The person who helped the officer was taken to the hospital with a hand injury.

Indiana State Police are investigating this incident.
