Charges filed for third person in neglected teen case

ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) – Charges have been filed for a third person in the case of a neglected Anderson teen.

Crystal Sells, Steve Sells daughter, is charged with three counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious injury, criminal confinement and criminal confinement resulting in serious bodily injury.

According to the prosecutor, Sells participated in the abuse and at times had sole control over the girl.

The 15-year-old mentally disabled girl was found weighing 40 pounds. Investigators said she was locked away in a room and was covered in feces.

Court documents showed that Sells had been physically abusive to the teen. According to a former roommate, they witnessed Sells hitting the teen over the head with a plastic chair.

A relative told police that Crystal and Joetta Sells spent three hours from when the teen was found unresponsive to calling the ambulance trying to decide what to tell police so they wouldn’t go to jail.

The girl’s grandparents, Steve and Joetta Sells, each face a dozen charges.

The teen remains hospitalized.
