TOLEDO, Ohio – Anthony Luciani scored twice but Fort Wayne took the game, 3-2, in a shootout on Sunday evening at Fifth Third Field. Toledo has an overall record of 22-5-2-2 on the season and is 8-3-2-2 at home.
The Komets collected the first goal of the game at 17:47 of the first period when Gabriel Beaupre beat Walleye goaltender Neil Conway with a wrist shot from the blue line. Toledo tied the game at a goal apiece at 5:06 of the second period when Anthony Luciani (16th) bounced one in off the back of Komets goaltender Roman Will.
The Komets scored later in the second to take a one goal into the third period. Kyle Bonis fed Luciani a perfect pass and Anthony tied the game at two at 17:04 of the third period. Toledo outshot the Komets 46-33 during the game and overtime but was outscored 2-1 in the shootout.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Neil Conway made 31 saves on the 33 shots he faced and he has a record of 4-0-1-1. Today was the third time in the last four times that Toledo has gone over the 40 shot mark.
Winterfest Fan Support: Sunday’s game saw a crowd of 11,081 in attendance at Fifth Third Field for a total of 22,303 fans that saw the first two games outside in the history of the ECHL.
