1/3 high school basketball recap

IHSAA Basketball

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – For the second time in two weeks, the Homestead (11-1) boys beat their county rival. Saturday’s 48-39 win over Carroll (9-2) was for the Holiday Hoops Tournament Championship.

Homestead has now won seven straight games over the Chargers.

Caleb Swanigan scored 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds for Homestead. Swanigan was also playing in front of Purdue coach Matt Painter, who made the trip to northeast Indiana for a second straight day.

The Chargers and Spartans were tied at 19 at the half, before Swanigan led Homestead to the win. The Spartan senior had multiple three-point plays in the second half. Two came the old-fashioned way, where Swanigan was fouled and then made his free throw. He also sank a three-point shot.

Tahj Curry added a dozen points for Homestead.

Carroll’s Jacob Redding and Kyle Mallers each had 12 points in the loss.

Carroll’s Chandler White became the school’s all-time leading scorer during the Chargers’ semi-final win over Hamilton Southeastern.  Click here to see White make the basket. White scored 25 points Friday night, which put the senior two points shy entering Saturday’s game.
