Driver flees, leaves passengers after vehicle crash

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Two people escaped serious injuries in a rollover crash at Canterbury Green Apartments early Thursday morning.

Emergency personnel were called to the 5100 block of Stonehedge Boulevard shortly before 4 a.m.

Firefighters pulled two people from a vehicle that rolled onto the driver’s side. Police said they both had minor injuries.

However, witnesses told police the driver ran off after the crash. The two passengers said they didn’t know the driver and had only met earlier in the night, according to police.

Investigators said the SUV hit another vehicle before it crashed. The SUV went off the road, over an approximate four foot retention wall, and came to a stop about three feet from a pond. The vehicle narrowly missed the corner of an apartment building. Firefighters used support devices to stabilize the vehicle on it’s side while they extricated the occupants.

Police said alcohol was a likely factor in the crash.

The incident is under investigation.
