Shooting victim dies

The Fort Wayne Police Department responds to a shooting on McKinnie Avenue.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man died after being shot in the 600 block of McKinnie Avenue Monday evening.

Police were called around 8:30 p.m. after a person was driving down McKinnie Avenue and saw an altercation between two people, according to police.

City police spokesperson Officer Chris Felton said as the person dialed 911, one of the men was apparently shot. The witness told police he saw a man lying on the ground.

Felton said medics initially took the victim, identified as Moath Said-Saleh Nassir, 21, to the hospital in critical condition. It appears attempted robbery was a motive in the shooting, according to police.

An autopsy Tuesday confirmed the manner of death to be a gunshot wound. Nassir is Allen County’s 16th homicide victim this year, according to the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

A limited suspect description was available, but no arrests have been made.
