Komets on the wrong end of slugfest

The Komets celebrate after Shawn Szydlowski scored in the first period.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Despite a scoring flurry in the first period, the Komets fall to Quad City Monday night, 7-5.

The Mallards were quick to get on the board in the first period getting two goals in the first 6:25 to build a 2-0 lead.

But the Komets responded even quicker and more often.

Eric Faille and Gabriel Beaupre scored two goals within 23 seconds of Quad City’s second goal to knot the game at two goals apiece.

Shawn Szydlowski and Brett Perlini would each add first period goals as the K’s led 4-2 heading into the second period.

The Mallards would light the lamp twice in the second, but Szydlowski netted his second goal of the night to put the Komets up 5-4 heading into the final 20 minutes.

But that’s where Quad City put the game away with three unanswered goals to hand the K’s just their second regulation loss in the month of December.

The Komets close out 2014 with the annual New Year’s Eve game when they host the Indy Fuel at 7:30 p.m.
