FWPD: Victim shot in buttocks

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – One person was hospitalized in serious condition early Monday morning after a shooting near Broadway and Thompson Avenue.

A police officer on patrol along Broadway heard several gunshots and several people called 911 to report gunfire shortly after midnight.

According to a police report, one officer located a group of six to eight teenagers walking east on LeLand Avenue. The teenagers shouted at the officer and stated one of them had been shot. The officer observed blood on the victim’s pants and noticed the person had been shot in the left buttock. The age and name of the victim has not been released.

Police said the teenagers did not know who shot at them, but said they believed they were shot at from a house, according to the police report. One officer said when he approached the group of teenagers at least two ran off. The others were not overly cooperative with police and didn’t provide any further information when asked.

Investigators found more than a dozen shell casings in the 1400 block of Taylor Street, 1400 block of Thompson Avenue and 2000 block of Thompson Avenue. Several vehicles were also damaged by gunfire.

The incident is under investigation.
