Police: Mail stolen from several mailboxes

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Fort Wayne Police responded to several areas of the city where mail was scattered throughout neighborhoods.

According to John Chambers, spokesperson for the Fort Wayne Police Department, someone removed mail out of mailboxes in several neighborhoods with the most recent incidents occurring in the Northeast portion of the city.

Police said that the individuals are taking mail out of the mailboxes in hopes of stealing money or gift cards during this holiday season.

“We have seen packages being delivered left on the doorsteps and so forth. We have had reports in the past of those coming up missing, but as far as mail goes, I don’t recall anything to this extent that has occurred here recently,” said Officer Chambers.

Police are asking for residents to be observant and report any suspicious activity.
