FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Crews began tearing down a building Monday morning that once housed a school. The site of the former Franklin School located on St. Mary’s Avenue will be developed into a city park. The City is investing more than $330,000 in the demolition according to a news release.
Green space work and the installation of a splash pad are scheduled to begin in 2015. Final design and cost estimates will be finalized in the coming months.
“I’m encouraged by the progress we’re making in the ongoing commitment to enhance our neighborhoods,” said Mayor Henry. “By working together, we’re making a meaningful difference as we invest in the future of our City.”
A public input meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday evening at North Highlands Church of Christ, 1414 Archer Ave. Attendees will be able to comment on the preliminary designs for the park.
