FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Hospitals in Fort Wayne are monitoring an increase in flu cases in emergency rooms.
Geoff Thomas, spokesperson for Lutheran Health Network, said after monitoring the increase over the past three weeks, along with recommendations Fort Wayne – Allen County Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Deb McMahan, three of its facilities have implemented visitor restrictions. Thomas said they have restricted visitation to one person at a time at Lutheran and St. Joe. Dupont Hospital is allowing two visitors at a time.
These limitations are confined to emergency departments only. Visitor restrictions will not expand into other departments unless directed by the Department of Health.
As of Monday, Parkview Health is not restricting visitors. Spokesperson, Eric Clabaugh, said the hospital is monitoring the situation.
“If we feel the steps are necessary, we’ll take the appropriate steps and action,” Clabaugh said.
Due to a rise in flu-like symptoms, some hospitals in Marion County restricted visitors to immediate family members over the age of 18.
