Robbers take cash, booze from sports bar

Several police cars sit outside Sports and Spirits Monday morning after an armed robbery.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Police are investigating an armed robbery that happened Monday around 1 a.m. at Sports & Spirits on 1723 East Wayne Street, according to a report from the Fort Wayne Police Department.

A victim who was working at the bar told police he saw someone run by the rear door surveillance camera before two men entered the front door of the bar with guns. According to the witness, the men were yelling “You know what this is! Empty all your pockets.” The victim was told to open the cash register. The men stole an undisclosed amount of cash and five bottles of alcohol.

Police describe one of the suspects as a black man, about 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black hoodie, black jeans and clear latex gloves. He carried a gun similar to a glock with an extended magazine. The other suspect is described a black man, about 6 feet 4 inches with a thin build. He was wearing a gray hoodie and clear latex gloves. He carried a gun described as a “sub-machine gun” like a “mini-mac.”

The suspects left and headed to the gas station across the street. Police said from there they left in a white “boxy” style Jeep Cherokee headed south on Anthony Boulevard and then West on Washington Boulevard.
