One hospitalized following crash on icy road

DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) A man is in critical condition after the car he was riding in slid on an icy road in DeKalb County. The car headed north on County Road 11A crashed just after 7 a.m. Saturday. The driver and an additional passenger were not injured, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department.

Stephan Ferenczy, 43, of Fort Wayne was driving in the 7100 block of CR11A when he lost control on an icy patch. Ferenczy overcorrected, and the car overturned two times before it stopped upright, facing south.

Officers believe the front seat passenger, Gert Ferenczy, 84, of Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada was ejected while the vehicle was overturning. Gert Ferenczy was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the police report. He was taken to a hospital with injuries to his head, chest and neck.

The other passenger, Margit Ferenczy, 79, of Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada was able to exit the vehicle with minor injuries. Deputies believe she was wearing a seat belt.
