GARRETT, Ind. (WANE) – A driver lost control of his vehicle because of icy roads Friday night, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department. Jody Compton, 38, was driving his pickup truck west on SR 8 east of CR 3 near Garrett at 10:19 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle.

Compton attempted to correct the pickup when it went off the road and into a ditch. Police said the vehicle rolled an unknown amount of times before landing on its top. Compton was able to get out of the vehicle before emergency responders arrived.

Someone driving by saw the vehicle, stopped to help Compton and called 911, according to police. Compton was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital to be treated for injures.
