Building damaged after car crash on St. Joe Blvd.

A minivan is badly damaged after hitting another vehicle and striking a building on St. Joe Blvd. Monday night.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A building was badly damaged after two vehicles collided east of downtown Monday night.

Fort Wayne police said two vehicles side-swiped one another on Saint Joe Boulevard between Lafort Street and Columbia Avenue around 11 p.m.

The impact sent at least one of the vehicles into a building.

The sign on the front of the building read “Tease Salon,” but the impact damaged the back area which appeared to be unoccupied. No one was inside the building when the collision occurred.

The impact on the corner of the building was bad enough a lower section of the wall was destroyed. The inside of the building could be seen from the outside. Another point of impact pushed a portion of the wall inward. Concrete posts lining the exterior wall near the sidewalk appeared no match for the vehicle that struck the building. Debris was scattered along the road and inside the building.

Police said no one was injured in the crash.

Firefighters were inside the building checking damage and inspecting the integrity of the building. Neighborhood Code Enforcement and the Allen County Building Department were called to the scene to evaluate the building’s condition a decide whether or not to condemn the building.

The crash is under investigation.
