DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – One person died after a crash on U.S. 6 east of Kendallville Monday evening.
Emergency personnel were called to U.S. 6 near County Road 3 at 6:14 p.m. and found two vehicles involved in a crash.
According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle driven by Michael Schroeder, 35, Fort Wayne, was traveling west when he went left-of-center and hit another vehicle head-on.
Schroeder was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle, Ismael Rodriguez-Torres, 31, Garrett, and a passenger, Angel Gonzalez, 34, Garrett, were pinned inside their vehicle and had to be cut out by firefighters.
Rodriguez-Torres suffered cuts to his legs and Gonzalez suffered a broken wrist, toe, and injuries to his neck. Both were taken to a Fort Wayne hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
U.S. 6 was closed for several hours Monday evening.
The crash is under investigation.
