KOKOMO, Ind. (WANE) – A Kokomo man was arrested after police believe he threw out a gun and more than 100 grams of cocaine while leading police on a short chase, according to Indiana State Police.

The chase started after Michael O’Bannon, 30, was pulled over for a traffic violation around 1:40 a.m. Saturday. A trooper got out and approached O’Bannon’s vehicle when he drove away. The trooper chased O’Bannon for about two minutes until he stopped his vehicle and eventually ran off.

O’Bannon was found a few minutes later in a gas station’s bathroom.

Troopers said while O’Bannon was driving away from the officer, he was throwing items from his vehicle. When officers searched the area, they found a handgun and approximately 104 grams of cocaine. Troopers later discovered the handgun was reported stolen and O’Bannon had $680.

O’Bannon was taken to the Howard County Jail.

He faces felony charges for possession of cocaine, possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a stolen handgun and resisting law enforcement with a vehicle. He also faces misdemeanor charges for driving with a suspended license while having a prior conviction and resisting law enforcement on foot.
