FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne firefighters had a fire at a home on Monroe Street under control in less than 15 minutes Sunday night.
Crews were called to the corner of Colerick and Monroe Streets around 8:41 p.m. and found the fire at 2930 Monroe Street. Neighbors saw flames shooting out of the windows and called 911, firefighters at the scene told NewsChannel 15.
Neighbors also said a man lives in the home by himself, but he wasn’t home at the time. Firefighters said the initial investigation didn’t find any smoke detectors in the house.
The fire started on the first floor, but the cause is still unknown. There was a lot of fire damage to the first floor and smoke damage on the first and second floors. The Red Cross is responding to help the homeowner.
