FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Nearly 5,000 pounds of food will be prepared for the Rescue Mission’s Thanksgiving meal. Last year, the shelter served about 2,500 meals to the hungry and homeless.
Volunteers will spend about 9 days preparing turkey for the meal. Anyone who is in need of a meal is welcome to visit the Rescue Mission, located at 301 West Superior Street, on November 27. Meals will be served from noon to 3 p.m.
People have donated food items and cash to help fund these meals, which includes roasted turkey and gravy, green beans, garlic mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry salad, dinner rolls and about 350 assorted pies.
There are more than 250 volunteers who are helping prepare 3,000 meals for Thanksgiving Day.
