FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Four guest rooms will be added to the 11 currently in the Ronald McDonald House at Parkview as part of an expansion project announced on Wednesday. The facility located inside the Parkview Regional Medical Center will be the largest of the 12 in-hospital Ronald McDonald House’s in the world once the expansion is complete.

Construction is scheduled to start in January with completion by May.

The Ronald McDonald House is operated by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Indiana. The Ronald McDonald House at Parkview provides an environment where families can stay together while their ill or injured child is hospitalized. Nearly 800 families a year stay at the Ronald McDonald House and benefit from overnight accommodations, food and other support services. The Ronald McDonald House serves the families of all dependent children 21 and under and is available at absolutely no charge to the guest families.

“When a child is hospitalized, parents shouldn’t have to worry about finding a place to eat, sleep or take a break from it all,” said Mike Packnett, president and CEO, Parkview Health. “We’re thrilled to have the Ronald McDonald House inside Parkview Regional Medical Center, and just down the hall from our NICU and Pediatric units. This expansion will allow even more parents to access it easily while staying close to their loved one.”
