FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Family and friends are remembering the victim of Tuesday night’s fatal hit-and-run.
Police are trying to find the person responsible for the crash that killed 25-year-old Haley Nancarrow. Police said they’re narrowing their focus.
In the meantime, close friends said Nancarrow was popular and funny and although an arrest won’t bring her back, they want answers.
“There’s only one Haley. She’s an amazing person, hilarious, obviously beautiful,” said Chad Deutsh, a close friend of Nancarrow.
Chad Deutsch, Amanda Shroyer and Haley Nancarrow were practically inseparable.
“When the guys aren’t around, we’d have our girl time and we’d dance and dress up and whatever, have fun and laugh. She loved to make people laugh, she’s very funny,” said Shroyer.
Tuesday night, Nancarrow’s life was tragically cut short when someone hit her and drove off. Just after 10 p.m., a man flagged down an I-S-P Trooper and said a woman was lying near the edge of Maplecrest Road, across from the Georgetown North Shopping Center. Police think Nancarrow may have been hit at the intersection, but her body ended up about 30 feet down the road.
Her friends said she was visiting her parents and walking to a friend’s to a get a ride.
Deutsch said he talked to her just a half hour before.
“When I heard the news, I could not stop vomiting,” said Deutsch.
Police said more witnesses have come forward with more information.
The possible vehicle involved was a reddish to brown color truck or station wagon. It should be missing the passenger side mirror and should have noticeable damage to the same side. The driver is described as an older white man, wearing a dark coat.
While police work to make an arrest, friends said they want answers.
“It won’t bring Haley back, But at least we’ll kind of know what happened,” said Deutsch.
“She’s a great girl and she will definitely be missed,” said Shroyer.
Loved ones have set up a memorial fund for Haley on Go Fund Me to help with funeral expenses.
