Serious injuries averted in nasty-looking DeKalb accident

Two vehicles collided Tuesday morning in DeKalb County.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE)- Two vehicles collided almost head-on in DeKalb County Tuesday morning, but the drivers involved were fortunate to walk away without life-threatening injuries.

Police said Logan VanWye, 18, of Ashley, was southbound in his Ford Ranger on County Road 35 south of County Road 22 at around 8:44 a.m. when he lost control and went left of center.

His vehicle ended up striking a southbound Jeep Cherokee driven by Shirley Delong, 60, of Ashley, practically head-on, according to investigators.

VanWye was not hurt while Delong was transported to a hospital to be treated for a sprained wrist and complaint of pain, police said.

Police did not say why VanWye’s vehicle went out of control.
