Minivan crashes into unhitched semi trailer

ALBION, Ind. (WANE) A minivan driver crashed into a semi trailer that was straddling the center line of a state highway Monday evening after it come unhitched from the tractor.

According to the Indiana State Police, the semi had pulled onto State Road 8 from Bosch Automotive and as the driver made a wide turn onto the road, the trailer came unhitched, causing it to not have any lights on.

The minivan, driven by Bradley S. Bonar, 55, of Albion was going west on State Road 8 when it collided with the front end of the trailer. Bonar was trapped in the minivan and had to be extricated by the Albion Fire Department. He suffered hip and leg injuries and was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital for treatment.

The semi driver, Meliton F. Silva, 42, of San Antonio, Texas was cited for driving left of center.

More charges could be pending as alcohol is believed to have been a factor, although as per policy, Indiana State Police won’t say which driver might have been drinking.
