FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A Tuesday afternoon shooting that left a high school student in serious condition appears to have happened during a drug deal, according to details in a police report.
Fort Wayne police were called to a home in the 4400 block of Champlain Drive around 3:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found the student and his father. It appeared the student had been shot in the upper-right shoulder area. He told police he had arranged to sell marijuana to someone he met at school. The person who wanted to buy marijuana got into his car after he drove it into an alley between Weisser Park and Hanna Street. During the deal, the buyer shot the student and ran off. He then drove home and woke up his father. The father then called police.
A responding police officer could see what appeared to be a digital scale in the car and asked for consent to search it. Once consent was given, the car was towed in order to be processed by police.
As of Wednesday morning, the student was listed in serious condition. Police have not yet made any arrests.
