FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The Headwaters Park Outdoor Ice Skating Rink will open for the 2014-2015 season on Saturday, November 22 with free skating from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will be the 12th season for the rink located in the Lincoln Financial Pavilion. The rink is set to close on Sunday, March 1, 2015.

Skating fees will remain the same as they have for all previous seasons. Admission is $3 for children 13 and under and $4 for everyone over the age of 14. Skate rental is $2, although anyone can bring their own skates. Children 13 and under can skate for free every Wednesday between December 3 and February 25.

“Each year we have about 20,000 skaters and about as many spectators over our three month season. Last year’s skaters totaled just over 19,000, and there has been a cumulative total of over 231,000 since the rink opened in November 2003,” said Geoff Paddock, Executive Director of the Headwaters Park Alliance.

The indoor concessions stand will again be operated by Mr. G’s at the Rink, offering soup, sandwiches, cold, and hot drinks. Hours of operation are: 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 12 noon to 10 p.m. on Friday; 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Saturday; and noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday.  There will also be extended holiday hours. The rink is closed on Christmas Day.

Free parking is available in the Headwaters Park lot, with access from Clinton and Barr Streets. Season skating passes, single skating passes, and ice skating lesson information is available by calling Geoff Paddock at 425-5745. The direct line to the rink is 422-7625, beginning November 22.

Grants from the Lincoln Financial Group, the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne, the Auer Foundation, and the PNC Trusts, pay for some of the expenses associated with operating the rink seven days a week for over three months, therefore helping to keep admission rates steady for the past 11 years.
