Three adults, two children escape fire

Fort Wayne fire crews responded to a fire at 522 Meyer Avenue Sunday evening.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire in a house Sunday evening.

Crews were called to 522 Meyer Avenue a little after 5 p.m. Fire crews at the scene told NewsChannel 15 that heavy smoke and flames were coming out of the house when they arrived. There were five people in the home when the fire broke out. Fire officials said three adults and two children all made it out on their own before firefighters arrived and they were not hurt. Initial reports said it was four adults and one child. Fire officials said a neighbor child told the family about the fire. It’s not clear if there were smoke detectors in the home.

There was a lot of smoke and fire damage in the attic and moderate smoke damage on the first and second floors.
