Driver seriously injured after drunk driver crashes head on

JASPER COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) A man was seriously injured Saturday night when a drunk driver on I-65 was headed the wrong way and crashed into his vehicle head on, according to Indiana State Police.

Around 11:30 p.m., troopers were dispatched to I-65 near the 223 mile marker near the Fair Oaks exit. Brian Bohlke, 42, of Rensselaer was headed southbound in a car with his two school aged children when they were hit by an oncoming car.

Luis Aminto Alicea, 55, of Valparaiso was driving north in the southbound lanes when he crashed into Bohlke’s vehicle.

Both cars sustained heavy front end damage. Alicea was taken to a local hospital with internal injuries. Bohlke was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. His children were taken to the hospital as a precaution for treatment.

Alicea faces charges for being under the influence of alcohol and narcotics. Bohlke also faces charges for possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana.
